BGE Has New Ways to Help Income-Qualified, Single-Family Homeowners!
BGE’s Limited Income Energy Efficiency Program is making it easier than ever for income-qualified owners of single-family homes to save energy every day AND manage utility costs. These homes include town homes and row homes that are your primary residence.
Income-qualified home owners may be eligible for energy saving services and quality home improvements already included in their BGE service. The program now offers a wide range of ways to make your home more energy-efficient. BGE can help your family conserve electricity and natural gas - so you spend less. Based on your home's needs, improvements may include:
- Insulation
- Air sealing (e.g., caulking, weather stripping)
- Windows and exterior door repair
- Gas furnace and boiler repairs or replacements for natural gas customers
- Heat pump tune-up, repair or replacement
- Duct sealing and insulation
- High-efficiency lighting
- Major appliances (refrigerators, clothes washers, room air-conditioners)
- Water heater tune-up, repair or replacement (excluding propane or oil water heaters)
- Water heater tank wraps and pipe insulation
- Low-flow showerheads
- Faucet aerators
- Health and safety repairs.
Qualifying households become eligible for energy saving measures following a comprehensive home energy audit performed by a certified building science professional. This audit, and any follow up improvements, are included in your current BGE service at no additional cost.
Your own personal "energy advisor" will:
- evaluate your home,
- prioritize the most effective ways to reduce your energy bills while increasing your comfort, and
- install the recommended measures.
After the changes have been made, your energy advisor will conduct another set of tests to verify results - and will make sure your home is operating within important health and safety parameters.
If your home has been previously weatherized under the Maryland Weatherization Assistance Program or the BGE Energy Financial Assistance Program, you may also qualify for additional assistance. Find out how to participate.
