You Can Build a Brighter Future with BGE’s ENERGY STAR® for New Homes Program!
In coordination with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the BGE ENERGY STAR for New Homes Program seeks to accelerate the market penetration of homes in BGE's service territory that meet or exceed ENERGY STAR guidelines. To achieve this objective, the program will work to increase homebuyer demand for, and homebuilder supply, of new homes built to these high energy efficiency standards.
To earn the ENERGY STAR, a home must meet energy efficiency guidelines set by the EPA. These homes are at least 15% more energy efficient than homes built to code, but they typically include energy-saving features that make them 20–30% more efficient than standard homes.
ENERGY STAR qualified homes include a variety of “tried-and-true,” energy-efficient features such as effective insulation, high-performance windows, tight construction and ducts, efficient heating and cooling equipment, energy-efficient products, and third-party verification that contribute to benefits such as improved home quality, comfort, reduced energy demand, and less air pollution.
